This game is similar to Diablo II, an action rpg.

When you make a character you have a choice of three leagues. Standard (with an option for hardcore mode) Domination and Nemesis. Domination is the default league. Choose standard if you don't know which to choose.

Currency is item trading. There are no coins in the game. Drops are used to trade for other items from NPC vendors. There is no auction house. You trade with other players. There is a cash shop and its strictly cosmetic items. No play to win items are in the shop.

You have 24 character slots to start with.

All characters on an account in the same league share bank space. If you make several characters in another league those characters can share those items.

Guilds start with 30 spots. You can purchase 10 more spots for a $1. More about guilds here: Guilds - Path of Exile
